Mixed Media - Girl with Bird and Green Vines

Today, I thought I would show you a little bit of the process behind the current mixed media piece I'm working on.  I started out by prepping by page with gesso and outlining the basic feel of the piece.

I added the first layers of the background. I used distress stain in faded jean for the lighter blue and water color pencil for the darker blue. The hair was done with a base layer in yellow water color pencil. I used distress ink in Vintage Photo to add a touch of brown in places of the hair.

The face was done in peach watercolor pencil and then I added some shading with colored pencils over top.

Next, I touched up the hair with some more brown and started working on the shirt. I colored the shirt with green watercolor pencil.

To make the background a little more interesting, I drew in some vines and used my Ronda Palazzari stencils to create some circle textures.

Next, I finished by adding some details in the hair with oil pastels. I am happy with the way it looks now, but am debating on whether to add in some words or a quote. Do you have a favorite quote? Leave it in a comment below!
